Letter no 9
Dear Commission B Official Members and Representatives of Countries with Observer Status,
As a result of the call for candidates for incoming vice-chair at the next URSI GA in Maastricht, I have received two eligible nominations, namely from Italy: Prof. Roberto Tiberio, Univ. of Siena, and from Canada: Prof. Lotfollah Shafai, Univ. of Manitoba.
Our planning was such as to allow for the possibility of a preparatory vote by e-mail in order to bring down a potentially large number of candidates to a smaller number ( 2-4 ). In the present situation there is clearly no need for such a preparatory vote and the names of the two candidates will be forwarded to the URSI Secretariat before April 1st, 2002.
The URSI Secretariat will then handle the ballot, which according to the URSI rules will be conducted by ordinary mail, with a possibility for a final vote at the Maastricht GA ( cf. the documents appended to my letters numbers 6 and 8 ). The Document 2, " Biographical Details of Candidate Nominated " for the two candidates will be sent to you by the URSI Secretariat along with the ballot.
Sincerely, Staffan Ström.
Chair, Commission B of URSI
