Letter no 2

Dear Commission B Representatives,

This is my second letter to all Commission B Representatives ( and I thank all of you who have responded with updated e-mail addresses and other clarifications).

The main purpose of the present letter is to invite proposals to organise the 2004 URSI Electromagnetic Theory Symposium. As a reminder I mention that the recent previous Symposia in this series were as follows:

1986 Budapest, Hungary

1989 Stockholm, Sweden

1992 Sydney, Australia

1995 St Petersburg, Russia

1998 Thessaloniki, Greece

and then we have the 2001 Symposium in Victoria, Canada ( the "Call for Papers"

will be sent out during January, 2000 ).

As decided by Commission B during the Toronto GA, the proposals received as a result of the present invitation will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee, which will select two proposals, which will be invited to submit a more complete proposal. These two proposals will then be subjected to a vote by e-mail amongst the Commission B representatives. The site of the 2004 EM Theory Symposium is decided by simple majority of the votes received.

In view of the above, the description of the proposals in the first round should be limited to two pages and they should be sent by e-mail to me, not later than December 17th, 1999.

The following info should be provided:

  1. Location and time ( preferably May or August )
  2. How to reach the proposed location: nearest airport, travel time from there, other means of travel, etc.
  3. Further info concerning the venue; the following should be provided:
  1. Availability and price ranges of nearby hotels ( estimates are enough ), availability of cheap ( e.g. university dorm ) accommodation.
  2. Estimate of the registration fee.
  3. Possible local contribution to a Young Scientist Awards programme
  4. Names of key members of a Local Org. Committee
  5. Other attractive features of the proposal, such as the possibility of an interesting accompanying persons programme, etc.

Finally I repeat the deadline for the proposals, i.e.

DECEMBER 17th, 1999

I look forward to a number of interesting proposals!

Best wishes, Staffan Ström.
