URSI General Assembly is extended to Friday 15 February . This extension is
also valid for applications for young scientists, student financial support
and for the student paper contest.
Please distribute this information as widely as possible, with the warning that additional extensions beyond
15 February will not be possible.

: Dr A P Mitra passed away at
4.30 a.m. on 3rd September 2007 in New Delhi. Dr. Mitra was Eminent Radio
Scientist , URSI Honorary President since 2002, Chairman of our Standing
Committee on Developing Countries, URSI Representative at IGBP. He had been
URSI Vice-President (1978-1984) and
URSI President (1984-1987).
Condolences may be sent to the URSI Secretariat, we will forward them

please note that the Chairman of Commission A, Dr. Pollitt, resigned in March
2007 and the Commission A Vice-Chair, Dr. P. Banerjee accepted our invitation
to be the "Acting" Chairman of Commission A until he will officially be
elected Chairman at the Chicago GA in August next year. We are truly grateful
to Dr. Banerjee for taking on the extra workload at this stage.

just received the sad news that Professor Wilbur Norman "Chris" Christiansen passed away on April
26, 2007 at the age of 93. He was URSI President from 1978 to 1981, and subsequently honoured as
Honorary President in 1984.

Christiansen is survived by his sons, Steve and Tim. His wife,
Elspeth, died in 2001. Their son Peter died in the 1990s.

the next URSI General Assembly will be held in Chicago, Illinois, USA, from 9
to 16 August 2008. As usual a limited number of awards are available to assist
young scientists from both developed and developing countries to attend the
General Assembly of URSI. All Young Scientists
should apply via the web-based form which will appear when they check "Young
Scientist paper" at the time they submit their paper.
