The ATNF is seeking to appoint
a leader of its Astrophysics research theme. Activities within this theme
comprise world-class astrophysics
research of relevance to the Facility's radio astronomy role. The astrophysics
group comprises approximately 15 research scientists and
has a budget of A$4.4M in 2006/07.
The ATNF is Australia's premier radio astronomy research organisation, managed by CSIRO, and is the largest facility of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The Australia Telescope consists of an interferometer array of six 22-metre diameter antennas near Narrabri, which operate from 1.4 to 100 GHz, another 22-m antenna near Coonabarabran specialising in 3-mm spectroscopy and VLBI, and the 64-metre antenna near Parkes. The ATNF also undertakes significant strategic research in future instrumentation, primarily at its Sydney headquarters. The ATNF's activities are identified under four research themes, Astrophysics, Operations, Technologies and xNTD & SKA Phase 1.
The appointee will be one of four ATNF Assistant Directors reporting to the ATNF Director.
